GPT-5 Debuts with expanded Context, Multimodal input and smarter tools

OpenAI’s newly released GPT-5 introduces multimodal capabilities, extended context memory, and enhanced tools for developers and businesses, aiming to improve productivity across both technical and non-technical tasks.

On August 7, 2025, OpenAI released GPT-5, the newest version of its AI model used in ChatGPT. The update brings a range of technical improvements aimed at making the system more capable and flexible for different types of work.

GPT-5 is multimodal, able to process text, images, audio, and video. It supports a much larger context window of up to one million tokens, which allows it to handle longer and more complex interactions. The model also has persistent memory, so it can retain relevant details between sessions. For ChatGPT users, it introduces features such as customizable conversational styles, an upgraded voice mode, “vibe coding” for generating and refining code through natural language, and integrations with Gmail and Google Calendar.

For developers, GPT-5’s changes focus on cleaner code generation, improved debugging, and stronger reasoning for tackling complex programming problems. “Vibe coding” is designed to make interaction with the model more direct, reducing the need for highly structured prompts when building software.

Businesses may find value in its automation capabilities, such as managing schedules, drafting emails, or producing summaries from documents. The improved reasoning also supports tasks like analyzing data, preparing reports, and assisting with decision-making.

While GPT-5 is not considered artificial general intelligence, it has been built with measures to reduce inaccurate or overly confident responses. It is now the default model in ChatGPT, with unlimited access available through the Pro subscription.
